Local Prospect Looking At BC

For many high school football prospects, the recruiting process begins in the summer before their senior season. They hit the road attending as many camps as they can and work out for all the programs that have shown interest. One such example is Rhode Island native Jean-Dean Roussel.
Rhode Island is not known as a hot bed of college recruiting. There are, however, some good athletes from time to time that come out of the Ocean State to play major college football. One prospect this year that has a chance to play at a major program is
Jean-Dean Roussel
.
“I have been getting interest from UNH, URI, UMass, Northeastern and
Boston College
. Northeastern offered me a scholarship. “
Jean-Dean is a new name for those who follow recruiting. He plays at St. Raphael’s Academy in Pawtucket Rhode Island. For his high school team he plays split end, which translates to slot receiver at the college level.
“I’m a split end, but I also play defensive back. Colleges are looking at me as a receiver or a corner.”
Colleges interested at this point are all in New England. Boston College has shown interest and invited Jean-Dean to their second session summer camp.
“I’m going to the BC camp, their second session. They told me they want to see me work out before they decide where they think I can play or even if they are going to offer.”
The attraction to Boston College would seem obvious. As the only high-major football program in New England, the attraction is natural. For Jean-Dean, there is another factor.
“I’ve gone to Catholic schools since I was in fifth grade. If I can continue my education at a Catholic college, that would be great. Obviously, it is the high level of football that is the biggest attraction. I want to play at the highest level. If BC does not offer then I’ll have to consider other schools.”
This summer Jean-Dean will be participating in college camps around New England, including UMass, Northeastern and
Connecticut
. Additionally, he will take part in the Blue-Gray Combine and work out at Dean College.
“I have not planned my whole summer, but I expect to be on the football field just about every day in the summer. If I’m not at a camp then I’ll be at a combine working to approve my agility and speed.”
